Hope you all are enjoying your precious time with your family!
But not everyone is as lucky as we talk! Two days back we lost an ‘inspiration to the rising youngsters’, Sushant Singh Rajput, to Depression. He was last seen in the iconic movie, “CHHICHHORE” as Anni.
Since his death everyone has been talking about Depression, stress, mental well being but for how long are we going to talk about these topics? This cause, like other news, will surface few days or months then again people will go back to their *regular life*. It has become our habit to take action after seeing the consequences. We visit a Dentist only after we experience a “sensation” in the gum area or in some severe cases, after a “cavity” occurs likewise a person is referred to a Psychiatric or a Doctor only after physically hurting themselves.

All of a sudden, people started posting sympathetic lines for those who suffer when in actual they can't even differentiate who needs them, others don't even bother!
In my last blog I talked about the importance of meditation to redefine the invisible bond between your body, mind and soul. Today I’ll talk (*actually write) about the different types of meditation anyone can follow or I should quote, “Must Follow”.
First you need to identify- WHAT IS MENTAL WELL BEING TO YOU? WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY MEDITATION?
Well it’s about the method you use and not the venue you choose. In reality, we have 5 major types of meditation; I’ll show them through a series of images:
1. (Zen-mindfulness meditation)- This form has an origin from Buddhist monks, where you pay attention to your thoughts as they pass through your mind without judging. You simply observe them; this improves your concentration and awareness level.
2. (Spiritual meditation) – This form is similar to the prayer that we do every morning, silently offering our gratitude for obtaining a deeper connection towards the one true ‘GOD’. This spikes your spiritual growth.
3. (Movement meditation) – This form is often confused with Yoga, but it is not. It actually involves taking a walk through nature, gardening (moving with the nature) or other gentle forms of motion. This helps in soothing wandering minds.
4. (Focused meditation) – This involves concentration using any of the five senses. One can focus on their breath while practicing deep and slow inhaling and exhaling breathe or stare at the candle flame for a certain time period. This helps in gaining additional focus in one’s life.
(His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada (an Indian spiritual teacher and the founder-preceptor of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness, ISCKON chanting with his bead bag, an excellent example of mantra or Transcendal meditation. He chants these on each bead: Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Hare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare)
5. (Mantra or Transcendal meditation) – This involves chanting ‘OM’ or a specific mantra, phrase or word while staying alert and tuning with the surrounding. A practitioner may use beads to calm their senses. This form allows one to experience deeper levels of awareness while for some this may become a step to a new habit.
I follow the Mindfulness and Movement form of Meditation as mentioned above.
The benefits we gain from meditation far exceeds from what it costs. I’ll mention few of them below on the basis of affected areas:
Mental well being:
helps reduce symptoms of panic disorder
reduces stress and anxiety in general
helps treat depression in mothers to be
helps reduce alcohol and substance abuse
decreases feelings of loneliness
increases feelings of compassion and decreases worry
improves your mood and psychological well-being
increases awareness of your unconscious mind.
Performance:
improves your focus, attention, and ability to work under stress
gives you mental strength, resilience and emotional intelligence
makes you stronger against pain
fosters creativity
Physical benefits:
reduces the risk of heart diseases and stroke
affects genes that control stress and immunity
helps regulate blood pressure
helps prevent asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease, and much more.
Meditation can actually help regulating irregular menstruation cycle, premenstrual menopause, and insomnia caused by the irregular menstruation cycle. During the cycle a woman’s body is considered weak but in the *educated* society it is treated as a TABOO!!!
